Meet Amy Alexander
Montlake Center Director
Hello to all of you from Montlake CDSA!
My name is Amy Alexander and I am the Center Director here at Montlake CDSA. I have been in childcare for about 9 years off and on working with all ages from birth to 11 years old. I have worked in many different forums, mostly for non-profits and I have been a Lead Educator, a Mentor, and an Assistant Teacher. I also volunteered at a Co-op preschool for 2 years before fully coming into the field. I really enjoy working with children of all ages, and I plan to work closely with the children and families here at CDSA to make this program an enjoyable and exciting experience for everyone!
What I do in my classroom relies on the interests of the children with whom I work. I want all of them to experience their lives through their own eyes, instead of through mine. I want children to touch, taste, watch, inspect, and take in everything they can and really get a wonderful understanding of their world. I do not want to interfere with their interests, I want to guide them. I observe the children and all of my work is done based off of what I see their interests sway towards. Children’s wisdom gives me comfort, they give me the strength to be who I am and in turn I give them the world.
I live in Renton near Fairwood with my husband and 3 kitties. I spent my early years in Renton and then moved to Covington when I was 12. I Graduated high school from Kentlake and then moved on to get my AA from Green River. I got my Early Childhood Education Certification from Renton Technical College and I am currently working towards my Bachelors in Children’s Studies with a minor in Psychology and Sociology at Eastern Washington University. Graduating in 2009!When I am not working I really enjoy cooking, reading, snowboarding and trying new and interesting restaurants around Seattle.
